We were lucky enough to pick up a small, well-cared-for collection of 19th-century botanical fern prints. This particular plate is a faithful reproduction of a naturalist illustration by Edward Joseph Lowe, taken from his book "Ferns: British and Exotic" (1856-1860). The subject is the graceful bristly shield fern (Aspidium hispidum) — an exotic fern with roughly scaled stems and lacy, finely divided fronds rendered in soft, natural greens.

Lowe captured the botanical detail with remarkable skill, and while the work is more than 150 years old it still feels wonderfully modern. It brings a natural, timeless touch to your home and is an ideal choice for anyone who loves botanical illustration.
