Antique Fern Botanical Print (Asplenium marinum var. interruptum) & (Aspidium filix-mas var. willisonii)

We were lucky enough to pick up a small, well-cared-for collection of 19th-century botanical fern prints. This particular plate is a faithful reproduction of a hand-coloured naturalist illustration by Edward Joseph Lowe, from his study of the British ferns and their varieties (mid-19th century). The subjects are two British fern varieties shown side by side — a form of the sea spleenwort (Asplenium marinum var. interruptum) and a form of the male fern (Aspidium filix-mas var. willisonii).
