Antique Fern Botanical Print - Vintage soft shield fern (Aspidium angulare var. aristatum)

We were lucky enough to pick up a small, well-cared-for collection of 19th-century botanical fern prints. This particular plate is a faithful reproduction of a hand-coloured naturalist illustration by Edward Joseph Lowe, from his study of the British ferns and their varieties (mid-19th century). The subject is the graceful soft shield fern in its awned variety (Aspidium angulare var. aristatum), a prized British garden form.
